Kathrin Schmidt

Senior Associate, Sub-Saharan Africa

Kathrin is an experienced cultural consultant and researcher with a focus on creative economy, cultural policy and mapping and evaluations of cultural programmes and particular interest and experience in Sub-Saharan Africa. Her PhD research at Londonís Goldsmiths College (Centre for Cultural Studies) is on the political economy of arts in West Africa. Based in Nairobi, Kathrin heads up the nascent TFCC Sub-Saharan Africa office. Her most recent work includes the M&E of the British Councilís East Africa Arts Programme, a scoping study on the potential of arts and culture to promote reconciliation and tolerance in Somalia; a scoping study of the creative industries in West Africa for the British Council and the M&E of the British Councilís Creative Economy programme in Kenya. This consulting and research is complemented by her experience in arts and media organisations in the UK, Europe and Africa, in particular in project and event management, business development, communications and audience development. She is also a Prince2 Project Management Practitioner, a Fellow of the British Royal Society for the Arts and fluent in German, English and French.
