Strategic Consultancy for Creative Scotland for their new Creative Industries Strategy

TFCC is set to build on our role in 2014 where we supported Creative Scotland in its strategic work as the lead agency for the Creative Industries in Scotland. Our next phase of work will focus on best practice advice for sector policy and investment, internationalisation and spillovers to the wider economy. To deliver this, we will be working closely with the Creative Industries team and their new Director, Clive Gillman.

Tom Fleming keynotes at Intermuseum, Moscow, Russia

Tom has been asked to speak on the changing role of museums in city development, with a focus on the cultural industries. His speech will include examples of museums across the world which are actively engaging in the production, development and diffusion of contemporary cultural content. He will also explore the ways museums can and must open up and cross boundaries: to collaborate and co-create with a wider network of cultural and creative businesses and organisations.

Tom was invited to Moscow by the Russian office of the International Council of Museums (ICOM). This is part of a longer-term collaboration with key cultural development agencies in Russia. Intermuseum is the largest congress and exhibition for museums in Russia and one of the largest in the world.

Tom Fleming provides keynote speech at CreaLAB final conference, Seville, Spain.

CreaLAB is a territorial cooperation project, co-financed by the programme SUDOE, which focuses on the creation and promotion of a Transnational Cooperative Network focused on the creative sector and their relations with other notionally traditional sectors. It brings together partners in Spain, France and Portugal to explore the spillover effects of targeted brokerage between sectors through living lab models.
Tom Fleming provided an overview of our research into spillover effects of public investment in arts, culture and the creative industries. He also set some new goals for CreaLAB partners where collaboration, trust and risk go hand in hand.

Cultivating Creative Cities, Royal Academy, London, UK

In a keynote debate for the London Festival of Architecture, Tom Fleming will chair a session on how creativity can be nurtured and sustained in a global city like London.

London is a globally significant creative citiy. But how do particular areas, and a city as a whole, become creative? Can creativity be planned for through policy or design? Should we try to protect creative places or do they have their own natural lifecycles?

The debate includes contributions from Will Alsop, architect; Mike Butcher, Editor at Large, TechCrunch; Munira Mirza, Deputy Mayor of London for Education and Culture; and Andy Pratt, Professor of Cultural Economy, City University London.

Tom Fleming speaking at High Level Conference: Culture in Development, UNESCO/EU Programme, Brussels, Belgium.

In this major event at Bozar, Tom Fleming will reflect on his experience as a UNESCO-appointed expert in the ongoing Technical Facility to support the implementation on the 2005 Convention on Diversity of Cultural Expressions. This has focused on cultural industries activities to support links between culture, civil society and economic development. The conference incudes contributions from Ms Silvia Costa, Chair of the Committee for Culture and Education of the European Parliament; Commissioner Neven Mimica,and UNESCO Director-General, Ms Irina Bokova.

Our work on this Facility led to the development of the first national Cultural Industries Strategy for Vietnam. He is looking forward to continued involvement over the next phase of the programme.
